We checked in to the Banyan Tree resort on Bintan Isalnd, Indonesia - just a 50 minute ferry ride from Singapore - on Sunday for a couple of days relaxation and pampering. And that is exactly what we got. Michelle and I booked ourselves in to couples sessions for a body scrub and massage session on Sunday and a back revival massage on Monday. Bliss!
However, I was somewhat distracted from the very beginning by learning that there are monkeys that live on the resort and sometimes visit the villas to beg for food. The staff were polite but clearly bemused by my persistent inquiries as to where I might be able to see the pesky little primates.
Of course, given that I was so keen to see them I was destined to be disappointed and we got into the transit back to the ferry on Monday afternoon without seeing hide nor hair of them. Amazingly, just as we were lamenting the lack of monkeys with the driver what do we see loitering on the local golf course but a dozen or so of them. The one pictured here was hanging out at the side of the bunker while its mates jeered at it from a fallen log over on the far side of the fairway.
Awesome!
